"Doing All the Right Things? Still Not Losing Weight? "
If so, you are not alone. Many people report frustration and failed attempts at solving their “weight problem”. When I work with people who are struggling with their weight, I often find related, underlying, metabolic problems that go unaddressed and hinder their weight-loss efforts.
Taking a whole body perspective on metabolic health and weight loss, I find one or more of the following four contributory factors.
1. Stress Levels: You and your body have been under a lot of stress for a long time, increasing cortisol levels. You may also be having cravings for sweet or salty foods due to the physiologic effects of chronic stress. You could also be feeling fatigued, depressed or struggling with motivation, or having headaches. All of this decreases your body’s ability to lose weight.
2. Liver Toxicity: Your liver is full of hormones, toxins, and other waste products, creating a sluggish response to many functions including fat metabolism.
3. Food Intolerance: You may have a food intolerance creating inflammation throughout your body, adding weight, often with other symptoms.
4. Thyroid Hypofunction: Your thyroid may be working slowly or working in cycles of over- and under-activity. Thyroid conditions affect 27 million Americans - mostly women, yet many are sub-clinical, misdiagnosed or mistreated.
Dr. Jahnke has done extensive post-graduate work focusing on helping people with problems like these with nutritional and lifestyle modifications. If you are struggling with weight or metabolic concerns, find an effective solution – lose the weight, get energized, and feel good again.

A CASE STUDY: “Mrs. Jones’ Unnecessary Surgery”
Mrs. Jones, we will call her, she came in to the office a short while ago. She had been in before for low back pain. Over the Christmas holiday she had had some sharp neck pain that also caused tingling and numbness in her hands. She went to her MD who sent her to a surgeon. She had neck surgery within weeks. When Mrs. Jones came in recently, her back was acting up but she also mentioned that she had a stiff neck. As we updated her history the recent surgery came up. Of course, I shared with her how chiropractic might have helped her avoid surgery but she hadn’t thought of chiropractic because she had only seen us previously for her back. This saddens me, because now Mrs. Jones’ neck function is permanently changed; there is scar tissue, and she won’t have full motion again due to the procedure. We can still help her with the chronic muscle spasms she has from these changes but wouldn’t it have been so much better if we could have helped her avoid these permanent changes? A rule of thumb, if there is a joint or muscle involved in your injury, whether it’s your back, your knee or your shoulder, we have probably helped a patient with it.
